KUCHING, Dec 17 (Bernama) -- The General Operations Force (GOF) Sarawak Brigade seized various untaxed goods valued at RM9.9 million during operations conducted under Op Taring Alpha, Op Taring Bravo and Op Taring Batas across the state from Nov 26 until yesterday.
Its commander, SAC Lim Bak Phai, said during the period, a total of 58 individuals were arrested, comprising local men and women as well as foreigners aged between 16 and 74.
He said the biggest seizure on Nov 26 in Miri involved simultaneous raids on six premises, with a seizure value of RM2.5 million.
“In the operation, police seized 4,909 cartons of cigarettes, 12,586 litres of liquor, two vehicles and arrested four local men and two women suspected of selling untaxed goods.
“All arrests and seizures have been handed over to Miri district police headquarters (IPD) for further action and investigation under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967,” he said in a statement here today.
Lim said the second-largest seizure was recorded on Dec 5, with an estimated total value of RM1.6 million.
“We also seized 3,644 cartons of cigarettes, 1,061.4 litres of liquor and firecrackers. Two vehicles were also seized, as a result of raids on seven locations throughout Sarawak,” he said.
