JOHOR BAHRU, Dec 23 (Bernama) -- The Johor chapter of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) recorded 354 cases of offences under the implementation of the Festive Season Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP) involving three series of festivals this year.

Its director, Lilis Saslinda Pornomo, said it involved the Chinese New Year, Aidilfitri and Deepavali celebrations with a total of 1,233 inspections carried out at retail and wholesale shops.

She said the main offence, which was failing to display pink price tags, recorded the highest number with 343 cases.

According to her, the price tags are important to inform consumers that the goods are listed under the price control scheme.

“Other offences detected included six cases of not putting up price tags and five cases of goods sold exceeding the control price,” she said at the launch of the SHMMP scheme for Christmas 2025 at a supermarket here today.

Lilis Saslinda said that so far, the number of compounds has not yet been finalised, thus explaining that the number of cases under SHMMP has increased, compared to 78 cases, including last year’s Christmas.

She said enforcement officers are constantly monitoring prices daily through operations to ensure that traders comply with business laws.

Meanwhile, she noted that the Christmas SHMMP, which comes into effect today until Dec 27 in Johor, involves nine items: imported Chinese boned lamb, imported Indonesian and Chinese potatoes, imported round cabbage, Chinese carrots, tomatoes, green bell pepper, red chillies, large shallots and large yellow onions.

She said the implementation of the price control scheme was arranged based on the current situation, to create a win-win situation between consumers and traders.
