KOTA BHARU, Jan 8 (Bernama) -- More than 300 people have submitted applications for gold panning licences in Kelantan since applications opened in early January.
Kelantan Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Mohamed Fadzli Hassan said the applications reflected an encouraging response to the regulated gold panning activity in the state.
“The locations for the panning activities will be announced this Wednesday. Alhamdulillah, the response has been very good and applications are still open.
“Each application goes through a certain process, but it does not take too long. This gold panning activity can also help the people earn a lawful livelihood permitted by the government, while at the same time making use of our own natural resources,” he told reporters here today.
Previously, the state government announced that gold panning licences on state land would only be granted to Kelantan residents, with a fee of RM100 per year.
Applications can be made at the Land and Mines Office, while licence holders are only allowed to use traditional methods without any mechanical assistance or modern equipment.
