KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- The family of the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) intern who died in an air conditioning gas explosion at HELP University in Bukit Damansara yesterday claimed his remains today for funeral arrangements.
The victim's family was seen arriving at the Forensic Department of the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) at approximately 2:45 pm before leaving the premises at 3:55 pm.
The Dean of UTAR’s Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Prof. Chang Yoong Choon, was also seen arriving at 3:22 pm to meet with the victim's family.
According to Chang, who spoke on behalf of the family, they expressed their gratitude for the media coverage but declined to disclose the location of the funeral.
"The family does not authorise me to disclose the location of the funeral. So for the university, some of the management of the university together with some of his good friends, we will pay our last respects to the student at the funeral," he said when met outside the HKL Forensic Department today.
In the incident at 11:40 am yesterday, one person was killed while nine others were injured, including four students, following an air conditioning gas explosion at the HELP University.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Datuk Fadil Marsus, reportedly stated that the deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Soo Yu Juan.
The victim was a third-year Mechanical Engineering student and was scheduled to complete his industrial training this Thursday.
