NEARLY ONE BILLION E-INVOICES ISSUED IN TOTAL AS OF FEB 4 -- AMIR HAMZAH

04/02/2026 06:04 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 4 (Bernama) --  About 981 million e-invoices have been issued in total as of Feb 4, 2026, indicating the widespread use of the system by taxpayers nationwide.

Minister of Finance II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said that to ensure the compliance process is carried out fairly and prudently, the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has adopted a “nudging” approach as an initial compliance measure. This aims to increase awareness and provide taxpayers with the opportunity to make corrections and voluntarily submit the correct tax information.

He said that based on preliminary reviews of Phase 1 and Phase 2 data, a total of 17,188 taxpayers identified as non-compliant in submitting their Income Tax Return Forms (BNCP) have come forward to submit them voluntarily. “This involves backdated income amounting to RM1.4 billion, contributing to RM290 million in additional tax revenue. This is proof that early compliance measures and encouragement of voluntary compliance yield positive results,” he said in winding up the debate on the motion of thanks for the Royal Address by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Amir Hamzah also said that the implementation of e-invoicing does not burden micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as only 35 data fields are mandatory.

“Out of the 35 mandatory data fields, MSMEs are only required to fill in five fields, as most information will be automatically populated through business systems or point-of-sale (POS) systems. In addition, QR code scanning facilities are provided to enable sellers to obtain buyer information more easily and quickly without the need for manual entry,” he added.
