KOTA KINABALU, Feb 25 (Bernama) -- The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) is closely monitoring the weather situation in Sabah, which is expected to remain humid over the next five days.

Its Minister, Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup, said the latest analysis by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET Malaysia) indicates that Sabah will be influenced by weak easterly and westerly winds throughout the forecast period.

“This condition increases atmospheric moisture and may result in rain and thunderstorms in several areas of Sabah,” he said in a statement today.

For the West Coast, rain is expected over Sabah waters in the morning, while rain and thunderstorms may occur in some areas in the afternoon and evening.

In the interior, rain is forecast in the morning at the beginning and end of the period. Thunderstorms are expected in several areas during the afternoon and night throughout the forecast period.

Arthur said parts of Sandakan, Tawau and Kudat are also expected to experience morning rain, followed by thunderstorms later in the day.

He has directed MET Malaysia to ensure that weather information and warnings are disseminated promptly and effectively.

“I want the people of Sabah to have access to accurate and up-to-date forecasts so that any risk of disaster due to the humid conditions can be managed more effectively at the community level,” he said.

He urged the public to remain alert to sudden weather changes, particularly in the afternoon and evening, and to obtain the latest updates through official channels such as the myCuaca application, the www.met.gov.my portal and MET Malaysia’s social media platforms.

“I pray that the people of Sabah remain protected and that all matters are eased as they face this challenging weather phase,” he added.
