PKR COMMENDS SPAIN’S STANCE AGAINST MILITARY AGGRESSION ON IRAN

07/03/2026 02:35 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, March 7 (Bernama) -- PKR has expressed support for Spain’s stance opposing what it described as unilateral military aggression against Iran and commended the Spanish government for upholding international law.

PKR International Affairs Bureau chairman Dr Maszlee Malik said Spain, under Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, had taken a principled position by condemning the military action launched by the United States and Israel against Iran as unjustified and a violation of the United Nations Charter.

“Spain has emerged not merely as a concerned observer, but as a principled defender of the international rules-based order,” he said in a statement today.

Maszlee said the firm position taken by the Spanish government demonstrated its commitment to the principles of sovereignty and adherence to international law.

He also commended Spain’s decision to deny the United States access to its territorial bases and facilities for military operations related to the conflict, describing the move as an exercise of national sovereignty.

According to him, the action sends a clear message that nations should not serve as platforms for military operations that could escalate conflicts, but should instead act as guardians of peace and stability.

Maszlee added that Spain had also called for restraint and urged an immediate return to negotiations to prevent further escalation in the Middle East.

“Spain’s insistence on restraint and its call for negotiations demonstrate the importance of diplomacy in resolving international disputes,” he said.

He said the situation highlights the need for the international community to uphold multilateralism and the rules-based international order to maintain global stability.

Maszlee also called on peace-loving nations to support efforts for an immediate ceasefire and a return to negotiations facilitated by the United Nations.

He said countries should also reject the use of pre-emptive military force as a legitimate instrument to resolve international disputes and continue to uphold the sovereignty of all nations, including Iran.
