IPOH, March 13 (Bernama) -- Police are tracking down a suspect believed to be involved in an attempted cable theft at Jalan Tambun early this morning.
Ipoh district police chief Muhammad Najib Hamzah said the incident occurred in front of a hospital at about 4.05 am.
“Based on the video recording, the suspect drove a four-wheel-drive vehicle and lifted a manhole cover in the middle of the road in an attempt to steal cables.
"However, as soon as the suspect noticed his actions being recorded by a member of the public, he quickly drove away from the scene,” he said in a statement.
Muhammad Najib said police are tracking down the suspect by obtaining information from witnesses and reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage in the area to aid the investigation.
The case is being investigated under Sections 379 and 511 of the Penal Code for attempted theft.
Earlier, a 25-second video circulating on social media showed an attempted cable theft incident at Jalan Tambun here.
