MYSAVEFOOD REDISTRIBUTES OVER 2.5 TONNES OF FOOD FROM RAMADAN BAZAARS, BENEFITTING 4,000 IN JOHOR

JOHOR BAHRU, March 17 (Bernama) -- More than 2.5 tonnes of edible surplus food from Ramadan bazaars have been redistributed, benefitting nearly 4,000 recipients across Johor through the MySaveFood programme.

Yayasan Johor Corporation (Yayasan JCorp) chief executive officer Datuk Mizan Yahya said the initiative collected unsold food from bazaars in Johor Bahru, Kulai, Segamat, Batu Pahat, Mersing, Kota Tinggi, Muar, and Renggam.

“The food was then distributed to asnaf communities and B40 households, including residents in Public Housing Programme (PPR) areas.

“This ensures surplus food is fully utilised while easing the burden on those in need and raising public awareness on responsible food management,” he said in a statement.

He said that food waste is not only an environmental concern but also a matter of societal behaviour, and this programme ensures edible surplus is put to good use rather than ending up as waste.

Mizan said the initiative also demonstrates that multi-party collaboration can create a significant impact on communities and the environment.

Beyond redistribution, he said the programme educates both the public and bazaar traders on the importance of reducing food waste, especially during periods of high demand like Ramadan.

To improve management, the initiative uses a mobile application to record collected food, categorise items, and track distribution to recipients.

MySaveFood in Johor is implemented in partnership with Yayasan JCorp, Pemuda Gema Malaysia, and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), with volunteer support from Gerakan Pengguna Siswa and several corporate partners.
