BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, March 28 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Brunei is aiming to increase passenger traffic at Brunei International Airport to more than 2 million passengers and handle 38,000 tonnes of air cargo by 2030, reported Xinhua quoting local media on Friday.
According to the Borneo Bulletin, Pengiran Shamhary Pengiran Haji Mustapha, minister of Transport and Infocommunications, said on Thursday that the targets are outlined in the ministry's strategic plans to strengthen the country's aviation sector.
He noted that the initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance connectivity, improve logistics capabilities and support economic growth through the aviation industry.
Pengiran Shamhary also said Brunei is exploring the possibility of establishing a low-cost carrier to operate at Brunei International Airport.
In addition, the government is studying the corporatisation of control measures or management at the international airport. The proposed approach aims to improve operational efficiency, service quality and overall competitiveness of the airport.
