YOUTH LEADERS WELCOME KESUMA INITIATIVES, SUPPORT COMMUTER SCHEME, MATERNITY PROTECTION

KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 (Bernama) -- Youth leaders have welcomed the approach by the Human Resources Ministry (KESUMA), which emphasises high-impact policies and long-term solutions, particularly within the first 100 days under its minister R Ramanan.

National President of Junior Chamber International Malaysia, Vincent Leng, said a balance between policy planning and efficient implementation is crucial to ensure initiatives do not remain at the proposal stage but are effectively delivered to target groups, especially youths.

He also welcomed the proposed introduction of the Commuter Scheme under the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), which is seen as capable of providing protection to more than 400,000 Malaysians, the majority of whom are young people commuting to work in Singapore.

“This initiative reflects sensitivity to the current realities of cross-border workers and ensures they are not left out of the national social protection system,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Associated Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (MAICCI) Women’s Chief Hemala Sivam also welcomed the proposal to expand social protection to more than 100,000 mothers nationwide.

She said the move represents a progressive approach in strengthening the welfare of women and family institutions, while demonstrating the government’s commitment to expanding the social safety net.

“This initiative shows that priority is given to the real needs of the people, particularly in terms of more comprehensive social protection,” she said.
