30/03/2026 06:58 PM

MELAKA, March 30 (Bernama) -- The plight of an elderly woman who lost her home in a fire on Saturday has drawn the attention of Duyong state assemblyman Datuk Mohd Noor Helmy Abdul Halem, who successfully raised RM90,000 to help ease her burden.

He said the funds would be used to repair the home of 69-year-old Fatimah Ahmat and her five grandchildren, with the restoration expected to cost RM85,000 after the house was destroyed in the fire at around 10 pm.

He added that the cash donations came from various parties, and the family also received contributions of textbooks and school uniforms from Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Duyong.

“No single agency could have covered the repair costs, so everyone chipped in. Alhamdulillah, the fundraising was completed in just one hour,” he said in a Facebook post today.
