DIGITAL JUSTICE ROADMAP TO BOOST LEGAL SECTOR

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- The government will launch Roadmap to My Digital Justice next year to improve capabilities and adopt digital solutions in the legal sector.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Legal and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said revealed that the roadmap was put together by all relevant parties, including the Digital Ministry and the Ministry of Communications.

"In adopting and embracing AI (artificial intelligence), the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister’s Department and the Office of the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court are jointly scrutinising through a joint committee on the use of AI for the legal sector without marginalising the principle of rule of law and access to justice," she said.

She was replying to a question from Syahredzan Johan (PH-Bangi), who asked about the government's preparations to adopt AI technology in the country's legal sector.

HISTORICAL HAUL: MALAYSIA RECLAIMS LOST HERITAGE

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- Prehistoric Niah Cave skeletons, Orang Ulu swords, Iban kumbu cloth and Borneo ethnic bead accessories were among state historical artefacts identified abroad and brought back by the Sarawak Museum Department from 2020 to 2023.

National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang said the Department of Museums also successfully identified and brought back a blue whale skeleton from Singapore in 1974 and a human skeleton from Gua Cha, Kelantan, from the University of Cambridge in 2008.

He said the National Archives of Malaysia (ANM) had also acquired 1,448 old manuscripts and historical materials related to Malaya that had been stored in archival institutions abroad since 1965, while the National Centre for Malay Manuscripts, the National Library of Malaysia (PNM), had taken possession of 1,090 Malay manuscript pieces from overseas.

The minister was replying to a question from Bakri Jamaluddin (PN-Tangga Batu) on efforts to bring back artefacts and old manuscripts related to Malaya's history that were looted during the Portuguese, Dutch and British colonial era and kept abroad in the Dewan Rakyat today.

MALAYSIA TO UNVEIL NEW HALAL INITIATIVE FOR ASEAN

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- Malaysia plans to present a new concept that will take advantage of the halal industry's potential in ASEAN following its chairmanship of the regional bloc next year.

Minister of Higher Education Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir said the collaborative effort, involving several ministries and agencies of the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM), is in the planning stages.

"We can present a new concept where ASEAN countries can explore together not only in the field of halal certification, but also in halal-based industries," he said during the question and answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today.

He was replying to a supplementary question by Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar) on the need to establish halal research centres and institutions at the ASEAN level as a step to initiate and improve the sector following Malaysia's Chairmanship of the bloc in 2025.
