PRESIDENT SHEINBAUM PRAISED ON X FOR HER INSPIRING LEADERSHIP AND HUMANITY

KUALA LUMPUR, March 21 (Bernama) -- Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, who recently welcomed and received the credentials of Palestinian Ambassador Nadya Rasheed, was praised on X for her inspiring leadership and humanitarian values. 

Rasheed, on her X account, expressed her appreciation to Sheinbaum for recognising the state of Palestine. 

“What an honour and a privilege to meet a leader who embodies the true essence of humanity - championing human rights for all, regardless of religion or heritage, as the world should strive to do,” she said. 

Human rights lawyer Qasim Rashid, in his posting, said Sheinbaum demonstrated an inspiring leadership when she officially recognised Palestine as a state and welcomed Rasheed, the Palestinian ambassador. 

“Sheinbaum is Jewish, supports Palestinian self-determination and wholly condemns Netanyahu’s attacks on Gaza,” he added. 

Editor of Geopolitical Economy Report Benjamin Norton echoed others by saying Sheinbaum’s recognition of Rasheed is very symbolic as the Mexican leader is Jewish.

“She supports Palestinian human rights and criticised Israel’s attack,” he added. 

Another X platform user, JoeWrote, said Sheinbaum is a true inspiration and a model of good governance. 

Voice of Mexico highlighted that President Sheinbaum received the credentials of Rasheed, ambassador of the State of Palestine and 22 other new ambassadors from various nations around the world at the presidential office. 

Voice of Mexico also  has a hashtag of #MexicoPalestine with both flags and posted a picture of a Palestinian flag on a balcony of an apartment saying: “Support for Palestine in Mexico is huge, so it is no surprise to find these types of images in Mexico City.”

Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported last October that Sheinbaum said: "We condemn the aggression being experienced, and we also believe that the Palestinian state must be recognised in all its fullness, just as the state of Israel is recognised. This has been Mexico's position for many years, and it is the position we maintain.”

It marked the first time Mexico's new leader discussed Israel’s ongoing attacks on Palestine since being sworn in as president.

Nearly 50,000 Palestinians have been killed, mostly women and children, and over 112,000 injured in a brutal Israeli military onslaught in Gaza since October 2023.
