MELAKA, April 18 (Bernama) -- The emergence of a “non-protocol society” poses a key challenge for the country’s future leaders, said Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
He said this group, often seen expressing views and criticisms without courtesy or boundaries, particularly on social media, requires young leaders to respond with wisdom and integrity.
“In this context, the establishment of the Melaka Youth State Assembly is a strategic move that reflects the state government's commitment to nurturing inclusive, visionary, and responsive future leaders.
“These representatives must carry their responsibilities with integrity and act as agents of positive change, strengthening ties between the people and the administration,” he said at the presentation of letters of appointment for the speaker and members of the Youth State Assembly (2024–2026) at Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh here today.
A total of 28 representatives from each state constituency and five appointed members received their appointment letters.
Ab Rauf added that youth voices must extend beyond the assembly to influence policies and bring about meaningful grassroots change.
We hope the inaugural sitting of the Youth Assembly scheduled in June will have a significant impact on the development of youth-related policies,” he said.
He also noted that the state government has approved 112 youth development programmes last year, amounting to over RM300,000. For the 2025 Budget, nearly RM600,000 has been allocated specifically for youth empowerment initiatives, including leadership training, exposure to the political system, and community advocacy efforts.
“This demonstrates that youth development is not a secondary matter but a key priority and a strategic investment by the state to cultivate courageous, intelligent, and globally-minded leaders.
“The state government will continue to provide the necessary support, infrastructure, and guidance to ensure youth initiatives deliver meaningful and lasting impact,” he said.
