KUCHING, Oct 9 (Bernama) -- A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the death of a three-year-old girl in Kampung Rampangi, Santubong, near here on Tuesday.
Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said a report on the incident was lodged yesterday by a 52-year-old local man.
The complainant said a friend informed him of his daughter’s death on Tuesday, he said in a statement today, adding that initial investigations suggest the victim may have been abused to death.
Alexson said that acting on the information, a team from the Criminal Investigation Division of Kuching district police headquarters (IPD) arrested the suspect in Kampung Krian, Jalan Padawan, at 11 am today.
He said the suspect, who has six prior drug-related records, also tested positive for drugs.
Alexson said the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder and reminded the public not to speculate or spread unverified information that could interfere with the investigation.
He also urged those with information regarding the incident to contact the Kuching IPD at 082-24444 or senior criminal investigation officer ASP Chris Olsen Ramlee at 013-8607572 to assist in the investigation.
