KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) has instructed 34 MARA Junior Science Colleges (MRSM) to implement home-based learning (PdPR) in response to an influenza outbreak among students.
MARA chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the decision was made after the MRSM recorded more than 50 students exhibiting influenza symptoms.
“Together with MARA management, we had to take the decisive step of not waiting for the district health office to declare MRSM closures. We permitted MRSM with more than 50 students exhibiting influenza symptoms to implement home-based learning (PdPR) to help break the chain of virus transmission.
“So far, 34 MRSM have implemented PdPR, allowing students to return home, while sanitation measures have been carried out at all affected schools,” he said in a Facebook post.
Asyraf Wajdi also wished for the speedy recovery of all students and prayed that the virus outbreak be contained.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) reported 97 clusters of Influenza A and B infections in Epidemiological Week 40/2025, up from 14 clusters the previous week, mainly affecting educational institutions.
According to MOH, all states reported an increase, with the five highest being Selangor (43 clusters), Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya (15), Penang (10), Johor (9), and Kedah (5), with the majority of cases showing mild symptoms.
