NEW DELHI, Oct 12 (Bernama) -- A delegation from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) met Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu in Male on Sunday to explore avenues for collaboration in advanced studies and higher education.
According to a statement from Muizzu’s office, the discussions focused on opportunities in various academic fields, including PhD programmes.
"The president also expressed gratitude for the continuous support provided by the IIUM to Maldivian students," it said.
The Malaysian team was led by IIUM Rector Professor Emeritus Datuk Osman Bakar.
Calling the IIUM a "beacon of knowledge and excellence" that nurtures future leaders, Maldives Islamic Affairs Minister Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said the university holds a "special place in our hearts".
"It is a unique centre of learning that harmonises modern education with Islamic values and ethics," he said at an event while welcoming the university delegation.
He said IIUM graduates have made huge contributions in various fields in the Maldives.
