SHAH ALAM, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil today officiated the opening of the SPX Express (SPX) Bukit Raja Selatan (BRS) Sorting Centre in Shah Alam.
SPX announced in a statement that the opening of the new sorting centre - covering more than 30,000 square meters - is part of their RM63.2 million (US$15 million) investment in advanced Automated Sorting Machine (ASM) technology aimed at enhancing operational efficiency.
According to SPX, the move also strengthens the company’s commitment to the national supply chain ecosystem, in line with efforts to make Malaysia’s logistics system more efficient, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of businesses across the country.
Utilising artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), the BRS Sorting Centre is capable of streamlining parcel management and is designed to handle over two million parcels per day.
“This facility can improve the efficiency of parcel sorting by 2.2 times and is expected to increase SPX's operational capacity nationwide by up to 80 percent. The time from receipt to delivery can now also be shortened to less than eight hours,” the company said.
In addition to its technological foundation, the Bukit Raja Selatan facility will also create 1,000 new job opportunities. “Sixty percent of the skilled workforce will receive training in automated operations, helping to develop local experts in high-tech logistics in the long term,” the statement added.
SPX Malaysia chief Cheah Lee Sun, in the same statement, said the new facility is capable of handling parcels for 200 different destinations, while strengthening ties between merchants and consumers and enabling more efficient deliveries nationwide.
