APPLE EXPANDS RENEWABLE ENERGY PROJECTS ACROSS EUROPE

CALIFORNIA / COPENHAGEN, Oct 22 (Bernama-Anadolu) -- Apple is expanding its renewable energy projects across Europe, with new large-scale solar and wind farms under development in Greece, Italy, Latvia, Poland, and Romania, Anadolu Ajansi reported the company announced in a press release.

These projects, together with a newly operational solar facility in Spain, will add 650 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy capacity to European grids in the coming years, generating more than 1 million megawatt-hours (MWh) of clean electricity annually by 2030.

The projects will also unlock over US$600 million in financing.

As part of its Apple 2030 plan to become carbon neutral across its entire value chain by the end of the decade, Apple aims to match 100 per cent of the electricity its customers use to power and charge Apple devices with clean energy sources.

"By 2030, we want our users to know that all the energy it takes to charge their iPhone or power their Mac is matched with clean electricity," said Lisa Jackson, Apple's vice president of environment, policy, and social initiatives.

"Our new projects in Europe will help us achieve our ambitious Apple 2030 goal, while contributing to healthy communities, thriving economies, and secure energy sources across the continent," she added.

Apple noted that product use, the energy consumed when customers charge or power Apple devices, accounted for about 29 per cent of its total greenhouse gas emissions in 2024.

To address these emissions, the company continues to support renewable projects that reduce carbon intensity in electricity grids worldwide.

By 2030, Apple expects to facilitate the addition of around 3,000 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of renewable energy to European grids annually.
