SHAH ALAM, Oct 27 (Bernama) -- The national lawn bowls squad are targeting a top-three finish at the 2025 Lawn Bowls World Cup, scheduled to take place at Bukit Kiara from Nov 4 to 8.
Malaysia Lawn Bowls Federation (PLBM) president Datuk Awalan Abdul Aziz said to achieve this mission, the national squad must secure at least one gold medal at the championship.
“For this championship, every medal won will contribute points. A gold earns 250 points, silver 175 and bronze 125.
“So we are targeting at least one gold for Malaysia to finish among the top three,” he told reporters at the 2025 Lawn Bowls World Cup press conference here today.
Awalan did not specify any particular event in which Malaysia must deliver the gold medal.
According to him, placing such a specific target would put unnecessary pressure on the athletes involved.
“I do not want the pressure to fall only on one individual or group. For instance, if I were to say the men’s team must deliver the target, they might feel a heavier burden because the task is assigned to them.
“So by setting an overall target, the pressure will be shared equally among the entire team,” he said.
Malaysia will be represented by Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple, Muhammad Soufi Rusli, Emma Firyana Saroji, and Nurul Alyani Jamil.
A total of seven categories will be contested, namely men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s pairs, para men’s and women’s singles, and para mixed.
