GEORGE TOWN, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- The Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) recently received an international award for "Best Dam Maintenance" for the management and maintenance of the Teluk Bahang Dam.
In a statement today, PBAPP chief executive officer Datuk K. Pathmanathan said the "Best Dam Maintenance" award was presented on Nov 5 at the 3rd International Conference on Dam Safety Management and Engineering 2025 (ICDSME 2025) in recognition of PBAPP's commitment and excellence.
"The award recognises PBAPP's continuous efforts in managing and maintaining the Teluk Bahang Dam as one of the safest operational dams in Malaysia, based on the dam's current status.
"The selection criteria for the ICDSME Award can be summarised as follows: dam management adheres to the standards of three international ISO benchmarks: ISO 9001:2015 for quality and continuous improvement; ISO 45001:2018 for occupational health and safety; and ISO 14001:2015 for environmental protection, preservation, and conservation," he said in a statement today.
The award also considers preventive inspections, third-party assessments, and asset remediation work to ensure structural integrity and long-term resilience, as well as emergency response plans and emergency drills and stakeholder awareness programmes to ensure community safety.
