KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD) at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) foiled an attempt to smuggle in 6.884 kilograms of Ketamine, valued at over RM344,000, by a 26-year-old Chinese tourist on Oct 28.
KLIA Customs Director Zulkifli Muhammad stated that the suspect was detained in cooperation with the Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) at the Arrival Hall, Terminal 2, after the scan of the suspect's luggage was found to be suspicious.
"The inspection of the luggage found several small transparent plastic packages containing a powder suspected to be Ketamine, wrapped in aluminum foil, covered with cardboard, and hidden inside the cloth lining of the luggage bag," he said in a statement today.
Zulkifli said the suspect and the seized items were subsequently handed over to the RMCD KLIA Enforcement Division for further investigation.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and the suspect has been charged in court.
In the meantime, Zulkifli also called on the public to help the RMCD combat smuggling crimes, especially involving cigarettes, liquor, firecrackers, drugs, vehicles, and others, and advised them not to get involved in such activities.
