KOTA KINABALU, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- Pakatan Harapan (PH) secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail has called on voters in the Api-Api state constituency to continue supporting PH candidate Thonny Chee in the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election.
He said continued support for Chee was crucial to ensure that the voices of Api-Api constituents could be represented more effectively at the state level, while sustaining the momentum of PH’s service in the area over the past two terms.
“We place our trust in Chee because of his strong educational background - he is a lawyer - and that was one of the key considerations in selecting him as a candidate.
“He also has extensive experience in community work and engagement, which gives him many advantages. Given his youth, we need a representative who can carry the voice of the younger generation, and I believe he can play that role effectively,” he said.
He said this to reporters during a meet-and-greet session with Chee, here today.
Saifuddin Nasution said support for Chee would also help expedite the resolution of various issues, particularly those that require strong cooperation between the state and federal governments.
“If Thonny Chee and several PH assemblymen are elected, and we become part of the state government, I believe our involvement will be far more effective because there will be better alignment between the state and federal governments,” he said.
“That gives us an advantage compared to a situation where those elected are hostile towards the federal government. Such hostility does not help - in fact, it harms the people of Sabah as a whole,” he said.
The Api-Api state seat will see a five-cornered contest in this election involving Ng Chun Sua (Parti Impian Sabah), Ting Shu Kiong (Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku or STARR), Soh Kee Suat @ So Chee Say (Parti Bumi Kenyalang), Loi Kok Liang (Warisan) and Chee, who is representing PH through PKR.
The Election Commission (EC) has set Nov 29 as polling day, with early voting to be held on Nov 25.
