SULTAN OF PAHANG CALLS FOR FULL PREPAREDNESS AHEAD OF FLOOD SEASON

KUANTAN, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, has called for all parties to enhance preparedness for the upcoming flood season.

In a post on the Pahang Royal Household’s official Facebook page, His Royal Highness said thorough preparations must be made by all relevant agencies and departments to ensure the safety and welfare of residents in high-risk areas.

“All parties must take earnest measures in making early preparations because the flood disaster requires cooperation from everyone. I also want the welfare of flood victims to be safeguarded, including in terms of the provision of clean, healthy and good-quality food at temporary relief centres.

“The cleanliness of toilets at the relief centres must also be constantly maintained and properly managed to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Users should also be given guidance on how to use the facilities,” he said.

Al-Sultan Abdullah made the remarks after the Northeast Monsoon 2025/2026 briefing at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Administrative Centre (PPSAS) today.

The Sultan of Pahang also decreed that information on high tide occurrences, continuous heavy rainfall, and any situation that may pose flood risks must be well-disseminated to the public.

“This important information must be communicated promptly and in an organised manner to allow the people, particularly those living in flood-prone areas, to make early preparations,” His Royal Highness said.

He also suggested that the state government consider establishing permanent relief centres by upgrading existing halls, which would provide long-term benefits and reduce future management costs.

At the same time, Al-Sultan Abdullah urged all local authorities to step up cleaning works, especially at drains and drainage systems, to ensure water flow is not obstructed during heavy rain.

His Royal Highness also decreed that all mosques and surau in Pahang perform solat hajat (special prayer) to ward off harm, seeking Allah SWT’s protection so that the state is spared from flood disasters and other calamities.
