KOTA BHARU, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) today issued an early flood forecast for Kelantan between tomorrow and Friday (Nov 21) due to the expected continuous rainfall causing rivers to overflow in several districts.
It said in a statement today that it had identified nine districts at risk, covering the main river basins in the state.
The districts are Tumpat, involving the Sungai Golok Basin, Sungai Kelantan Basin and Sungai Pengkalan Nangka Basin; Pasir Mas (Sungai Golok Basin and Sungai Kelantan Basin); and Kota Bharu (Sungai Kelantan Basin, Sungai Pengkalan Datu Basin, Sungai Kemasin Basin and Sungai Pengkalan Chepa Basin).
In Pasir Puteh, the river basins expected to be affected are the Sungai Kelantan Basin and Sungai Semerak Basin; Bachok (Sungai Kemasin and Sungai Semerak); and Tanah Merah (Sungai Golok and Sungai Kelantan).
The river basins set to be hit in Machang and Kuala Krai are Sungai Kelantan, while in Jeli, it will involve the Sungai Golok Basin and Sungai Kelantan Basin.
JPS said it will constantly monitor the situation and issue flood warnings if there is significant rainfall in the said areas.
It also advised the public to be aware of official announcements and take precautionary measures to face any possibilities.
