GRS COMMITS TO BOOSTING SABAH REVENUE, INCREASING EDUCATIONAL FUNDS

Published : 18/11/2025 11:56 PM

TAWAU, Nov 18 (Bernama) -- Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) plans to commit to improving uniions and focusing on implementation of duties to ensure Sabah state revenue increases if it is given the mandate in the 17th Sabah state election.

GRS deputy secretary-general Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said it was aimed to ensure the people receive more benefits, including educational funds, such as more Sabah state government scholarships.

"In 2019, when Parti Warisan Sabah was ruling, educational funds were only RM50 million and we (the GRS government) managed to increase it this year to RM136 million, more than double the allocation.

"Yet this isn’t enough, there are more of our children in need, but this is what we are trying to do, our target by 2030 is to at least ensure Sabah income exceeds RM10 billion,” he told reporters after launching the Tanjung Batu GRS election machinery here tonight.

He said the ties between the federal and Sabah government need to be always maintained well and that anti-Peninsular sentiment played up by certain parties should be rejected as it would be a loss to the public.

"Remember, the Federation is also a part of us, the federal government is also ours Malaysia is also ours, what’s important, like in our GRS manifesto, we want to make GRS a platform that brings together local parties,” he said.

He urged Tanjung Batu voters to choose GRS candidate Dr Andi Mohd Shamsureezal Mohd Sainal, a young doctor who is also a hospital director.

"This shows we are open and honest in GRS to bring all segments of society, not only as members but roles suitable with their expertise to be given a place in the frontlines as candidates and as assemblymen,” he added.

Sabah voters will cast their ballots on Nov 29, while early voting will take place on Nov 25.
