BATU PAHAT, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- Pengurusan Aset Air Berhad (PAAB) is set to upgrade the water supply infrastructure at two schools in Kampung Haji Bajuri, here, as part of an initiative to boost water pressure and curb wastage.
Its chief executive officer, Ir. Zulkiflee Omar said that Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Gambut and Sekolah Agama (SA) Gambut will each receive RM50,000 under the Satu Pemimpin Satu Kampung (Santuni MADANI) initiative. Kampung Bajuri has been adopted by the Minister of Finance (Incorporated).
He said the work, which has been underway since mid-year, involves replacing decades-old water pipes and upgrading existing taps to water-efficient models. The improvements are expected to reduce utility consumption at both schools and help ease the burden of their monthly water bills.
“At the same time, new water tanks have been installed, and PAAB has also provided a rainwater harvesting system (SPAH) to encourage the school community to use rainwater as an alternative source for purposes such as cleaning school grounds and watering plants.
“PAAB is also raising awareness and promoting green practices among the school community by building a greenhouse for organic plants and providing recycling bins, encouraging a sustainable lifestyle and responsible water management,” he spoke to reporters after the PAAB Awareness Campaign event, held in conjunction with the SK Gambut Entrepreneurship Carnival today.
Also present were SK Gambut headmaster Herlman Mohd Karim, PAAB Corporate Division head Rozaifee Abu Zaharim and Kampung Gambut village chief Sharif Ahmad.
Zulkiflee said PAAB is committed to positioning SK Gambut and SA Gambut as benchmark green schools in Batu Pahat, while simultaneously enhancing the well-being of the local community through improvements in education, infrastructure and environmental sustainability.
“We at PAAB have also upgraded the resource centre at SA Gambut by replacing doors, repairing floors and improving several other age-old facilities, in addition to donating six units of smart televisions for learning sessions at SK Gambut,” said the Kampung Haji Bajuri native.
He noted that the programme also involved the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp), the Malaysian Green Tech & Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), Ranhill SAJ Sdn Bhd, the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) and SWM Environment Sdn Bhd.
The programme also included TEKUN Nasional, the Johor Islamic Religious Council, the Royal Malaysia Police, the Fire and Rescue Department, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force and Putra Specialist Hospital Batu Pahat.
Zulkiflee said PAAB is now working to upgrade the water treatment plant infrastructure and install main pipelines in Batu Pahat, following Ranhill SAJ’s signing of the Johor Water Supply Restructuring Plan in 2009.
