KUNAK TO GET NEW TOWNSHIP WITHIN TWO YEARS - GRS CANDIDATE

LAHAD DATU, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- Using the slogan Kunak Mesti Maju (Kunak Must Progress), Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) candidate for the 17th Sabah State Election, Datuk Norazlinah Arif, said the district is set to have a new township expected to be completed within the next two years.

The incumbent said the ground-breaking ceremony for the township has already taken place, adding that the project is expected to create job opportunities for young people in Kunak.

“Under the Sabah government, Sawit Kinabalu has set up a plant, Kunak Lipids Sdn Bhd, which can provide job opportunities for young people in Kunak,” she told Bernama at a mega ceramah (political talk) programme at the Kampung Pangi hall, Mini Estet Sejahtera, today.

Norazlinah, 48, said the GRS-led government has successfully expanded economic opportunities for the people of Kunak, noting that supermarkets have been sprouting up ‘like mushrooms after the rain’.

She said the GRS manifesto focuses on continuing all ongoing state development plans.

Meanwhile, she dismissed negative stereotypes about women, often labelled as overly sensitive, emotional or fussy, saying such views are merely perceptions, not reality.

“Women are not fragile, but we are empathetic. We are not emotional but passionate and we are not fussy but meticulous,” she said.

Norazlinah said this was evident in the confidence the people of Kunak had placed in women leaders, who have shown they can shoulder responsibilities just as effectively and competently as their male counterparts.

She said the qualities inherent in women can produce strong leaders, expressing confidence that Sabah is capable of nurturing many more female leaders.

Situated approximately 500 kilometres from Kota Kinabalu, the Kunak seat, with 24,854 registered voters, is under the Lahad Datu parliamentary constituency, alongside Tungku, Segama and Silam.

The state polls are slated for Nov 29, with early voting scheduled for Nov 25.
