PM ANWAR ARRIVES IN KENYA FOR FINAL LEG OF AFRICAN TOUR

NAIROBI, Nov 23 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrived in Nairobi, Kenya, at 5 pm local time (Malaysia 10 pm) for his official visit, the last leg of the three-country African tour.

The plane carrying Anwar and his delegation landed at the State Pavilion Terminal of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where he was received by the High Commissioner of Malaysia to Kenya, Ruzaimi Mohamad, and the Chief of Protocol for Kenya, Severine Luyali.

The prime minister was also greeted by the Prime Cabinet Secretary of Kenya, Musalia Mudavadi, Kenya Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Salim Mvurya, the Director General of Political and Diplomatic Affairs, Ambassador Josphat Maikara, the Deputy Director General of the Asia and Pacific Directorate, Ambassador Jane Makori, as well as the High Commissioner of Kenya to Malaysia, Ambassador Ekitela Moru.

Later in the day, the Prime Minister will head to an official banquet hosted by Kenya’s President, Dr William Samoei Ruto.

Anwar is accompanied by Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

On Monday, Anwar will be accorded a state-level welcoming ceremony and will also have a four-eye meeting with Ruto.

After concluding their meeting, the two leaders will witness the exchange of memoranda of understanding and documents of cooperation, including in tourism, as well as between Kuala Lumpur City Hall and the Nairobi City Council.

The Prime Minister is also scheduled to deliver a keynote address and officiate the Malaysia-Africa Higher Education Forum in Nairobi and the Malaysia-Kenya High-Level Business Forum.

Going clockwise, Kenya, an Eastern African country, is bordered by South Sudan to the northwest, Ethiopia to the north, Somalia to the east, the Indian Ocean to the southeast, Tanzania to the southwest, and Lake Victoria and Uganda to the west.

In 2024, Kenya emerged as Malaysia’s third-largest trading partner in Africa, with total trade reaching RM5.7 billion, an increase of 1.2 per cent from RM5.51 billion in the preceding year.

Anwar is scheduled to depart from Nairobi to Malaysia on Monday evening.
