PARIT BUNTAR, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- The Social Welfare Department (JKM) has implemented seven physical projects and 14 social programmes that benefit the residents of Kampung Kedah here through the MADANI Adopted Village Programme initiative.

JKM director-general Datuk Che Murad Sayang Ramjan said his department implemented basic facilities projects including upgrading the village square, fences and related works at Taman Seri Tenggara Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PAWE).

He said JKM was also upgrading the Kampung Kedah sepak takraw court, Taman Seri Tenggara District and Land Office Hall (PDT) and upgrading the disaster goods mini depot in Kampung Kedah as well as constructing a mini recreational park and a MADANI Adopted Village monument in Kampung Kedah.

In addition, a gazebo for Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Panglima Bukit Gantang was also built, as well as repairing the disabled-friendly toilet and the septic tank at Surau Nur Jihad Kampung Kedah.

"All these projects can complete the basic facilities of the village for the needs of local residents to carry out recreational, social and spiritual activities," he told reporters after the closing ceremony of the Pantuk Tirai @ Kampung Angkat MADANI Programme at PDT Hall in Taman Sri Tenggara here, today.

Che Murad Sayang said his party was also implementing 14 social programmes covering community psychology programmes, child advocacy, support for the elderly and disabled as well as intergenerational programmes.

He said JKM was committed to continuing to support community development through professional assistance, social intervention programmes and technical support to the community.

"I believe that the upgraded facilities can be used as best as possible by local residents, besides being able to preserve the spirit of volunteerism and continue good relations with government agencies," he said.

The Kampung Angkat MADANI Programme is a government initiative in bridging the development gap between urban and rural areas in terms of providing basic facilities.

The whole of nation approach in implementing the MADANI Adopted Village also provides an opportunity for civil servants from various ministries and agencies to go directly to the field, thus changing the way the government interacts with the people.
