SHAH ALAM, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- Overflow from Sungai Buloh and continous rain of over a day were contributing factors behind yesterday’s flood in the Sungai Buloh area.
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the conditions cause the nearby areas and flood mitigation system to be unable to cope with the water capacity. and extraordinary weather conditions and rising water levels still impacted residents even with the building of bunds by the state government.
“The state government is identifying follow up measures that need to be taken to ensure the safety of residents, including improving flood mitigation infrastructure and immediate actions to ensure the safety and well-being of those affected,” he posted on Facebook today, following his visit to the relief centre at Sekolah Desa Aman, Sungai Buloh, this afternoon.
Amirudin said the centre, which is the biggest in Selangor, could house about 1,000 evacuees from 231 families and is currently sheltering evacuees from Taman Saujana Aman, Kampung Sri Aman and Kampung Boyan.
As of 5.30 pm, 2,910 evacuees from 789 families are being housed in 23 relief centres in five flood-hit districts in Selangor.
