ARAU, Nov 27 (Bernama) -- Candidates for the 2025 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination affected by floods have been successfully relocated without any disruption, allowing them adequate time to prepare for their exams, says Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.
She said her ministry continued to monitor the situation based on weather conditions and the preparedness of relevant agencies, including the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
“I extend my thanks to all agencies that have worked tirelessly to ensure our students can face the SPM exams smoothly without disruption… I am satisfied with the agencies’ preparedness, and ‘OPS Payung’ was activated as soon as the weather became unpredictable. Alhamdulillah, everything has proceeded well,” she said.
Fadhlina made the remarks to reporters after visiting the SK Changkat Jawi relief centre here today. Also present was Perlis State Education director Rose Aza Che Arifin.
She added that her ministry was continuously prepared through OPS Payung, which involved close cooperation with agencies such as NADMA, APM and PDRM to handle any potential second wave of flooding.
“We have OPS Payung, and it will guide important decisions including the relocation process, opening of relief centres, and so on. Agencies are working hard at the moment, and I am focusing on all issues including preparations for a potential second wave,” she said.
Fadhlina also noted that Home-Based Teaching and Learning (PdPR) for affected schools was implemented based on schools’ requests, and where PdPR was in place, it would continue until flood-affected schools were cleaned and ready.
“There is no problem in continuing PdPR, and the cleaning process is carried out immediately to ensure students can return to school as soon as the weather and conditions improve,” she said.
She added that her ministry was monitoring school infrastructure affected by the floods to assess damage so that repairs could be carried out promptly, with restoration expected to be completed before the next school session began.
“Most of the affected infrastructure involves workshops, laboratories, and sports halls such as at Sekolah Sukan Perlis, as well as staff rooms,” she said.
