KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 (Bernama) -- Two goals from Jaydon Brooker helped South Africa beat the Malaysian national under-21 men’s hockey team 3-1 in the classification match for ninth to 16th place at the 2025 Junior World Cup in Chennai, India, today.
Brooker’s two goals at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium came after he smartly converted penalty corners in the 18th and 39th minutes.
Malaysia narrowed the gap with a penalty corner goal by Muhammad Aqil Danial Mat Ruslee in the 49th minute, but Ross Montgomery sealed the victory for South Africa from another penalty corner two minutes before the final whistle.
The result means Malaysia will compete in the classification match for 13th to 16th place against either Switzerland or Ireland.
The Young Tigers previously failed to advance to the quarter-finals after finishing third in Group E with three points.
Nor Saiful Zaini Nasiruddin’s squad began their Group E campaign with a 5-1 win over Austria last Saturday, followed by a 0-6 loss to the Netherlands on Sunday and a 1-3 defeat to England on Tuesday.
