KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 (Bernama) -- The flood situation in PERLIS continues to improve, with the number of evacuees sheltering at two relief centres (PPS) in Padang Besar and Arau dropping to 115 people as of 8 pm tonight, down from 186 this afternoon.
The numbers in PERAK also decreased tonight, with 2,000 individuals from 598 families taking refuge at 14 PPS across four districts, compared to 2,206 from 671 families this afternoon.
State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat reported that seven PPS in the Hilir Perak district are housing 1,028 people. Bagan Datuk has 581 evacuees, Manjung (378), and Larut, Matang and Selama (13).
However, in PAHANG, the number of evacuees has risen to 113 people from 30 families being housed at five PPS, up from 62 from 15 families at four centres this afternoon.
According to the Social Welfare Department's (JKM) InfoBencana portal, 106 individuals from 29 families have been relocated to four PPS in Raub, while a family of seven in Kuantan remains at one centre.
The floods in Maran have, however, improved. The 21 people from five families who were sheltering at a PPS this afternoon have all been allowed to return home.
In SELANGOR, the number of evacuees has risen slightly tonight to 774 individuals from 248 families. They are being housed at nine PPS across Kuala Selangor, Hulu Langat and Sabak Bernam. This is compared to 764 from 246 families this afternoon.
In a statement today, Kajang police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said that 448 people from 123 families have been relocated to two PPS following floods in Batu 20, Batu 18, Dusun Tua, and Batu 14 in Hulu Langat.
Meanwhile, several areas in Kuala Lumpur were also hit by flash floods following approximately an hour of heavy rain this afternoon.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department Operations commander Mohd Hafizan Hassan said among the areas affected were Jalan Sentul Pasar in Taman Bahagia, Jalan Batu Bata in Titiwangsa Sentral, Jalan Haji Salleh in Sentul, Kampung Chubadak Dalam and Batu 2½, Jalan Ipoh.
