IPOH, Jan 4 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Fisheries Development Authority (LKIM) today distributed school supplies to 100 children of fishermen in the Hilir Perak area to help lessen the burden of the fishing community.
The LKIM MADANI Anak Nelayan Kembali ke Sekolah programme, held at Dewan Dato’ Haji Mohamed Jamrah, Sungai Sumun, near Hutan Melintang, Bagan Datuk today, was organised by the LKIM in collaboration with BHPetrol, Persatuan Nelayan Kebangsaan (NEKMAT) and Yayasan Nelayan Malaysia (YANEM). LKIM chairman Muhammad Faiz Fadzil presented the school aid to all recipients.
In a statement, the LKIM said each student received cash assistance worth RM100 as well as a school bag and water bottle.
"This programme is seen as able to alleviate the financial burden of fishing families in the Hilir Perak area by providing school supplies for their children, while also bringing joy and boosting the morale of students as they face the new school year.
"It is also hoped that this will encourage the children of fishermen to continue striving for excellence in character and academics," said the statement.
The statement added that the delivery of aid reflects LKIM's ongoing commitment to ensuring the welfare, fate, and future of fishermen and their children are always protected, in line with the desire to enable them to enjoy a more comfortable and secure life in the future.
