PUTRAJAYA, Jan 19 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) seized three boxes of fresh roses weighing 46 kilogrammes imported without an Import Permit from the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (MAQIS) during an inspection at the KLIA Cargo Free Commercial Zone (FCZ) yesterday.

In a statement today, AKPS said checks found that the items were fresh roses imported from India without valid approval and permits from MAQIS.

According to AKPS, the case is being investigated under Section 11(1) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728) for importing agricultural commodities without a valid MAQIS Import Permit.

“All seized items have been detained for further action in accordance with established procedures and applicable legal provisions,” the statement said.

AKPS also reaffirmed its continued commitment to tightening controls on the entry of agricultural goods to safeguard the country’s biosecurity.
