LONDON, Feb 2 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Arsenal Women defeated Brazil's SC Corinthians 3-2 after extra time on Sunday to win the inaugural FIFA Women's Champions Cup at Emirates Stadium, reported Xinhua.

Substitute Caitlin Foord scored the winner in the 104th minute, finishing a swift counterattack led by Frida Maanum to seal the intercontinental title for the London club.

Arsenal took the lead in the 15th minute when Olivia Smith scored, but Gabi Zanotti equalised soon after for Corinthians.

Lotte Wubben-Moy restored Arsenal's advantage with a header in the second half before Vic Albuquerque forced extra time with a penalty for the Brazilian side.

"It's nice to write our names in the history books," Foord said.

Arsenal captain Kim Little was named player of the match and said lifting the trophy at the club's home stadium made the occasion "extra special."

Earlier on Sunday, Gotham FC of the United States finished third with a 4-0 win over Morocco's ASFAR at the same venue.

The FIFA Women's Champions Cup features clubs from all six confederations and will be staged annually in the years between Women's Club World Cups.

Arsenal's victory also earned a women's club football record prize purse of US$2.3 million.
