KOTA KINABALU, Feb 13 (Bernama) -- The floods in Sipitang fully receded as of 3 pm today, allowing all 203 people from 96 families to return home, while the number of evacuees in Beaufort rose this afternoon.

The Sabah State Disaster Management Secretariat said the evacuees from 14 villages in Sipitang were housed at two relief centres (PPS), namely Dewan Sekolah Kebangsaan Padang Berampah and Dewan Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Padang Berampah.

In Beaufort, the number of evacuees from three villages staying at the Selagon Permanent Evacuation Centre increased to 304 from 130 families, up from 242 from 89 families this morning.

Continuous heavy rain since Tuesday caused the Mengalong River in Sipitang and the Padas River in Beaufort to swell, leading to flooding in surrounding villages.
