80 PWDS TREATED TO RAYA OUTFIT SHOPPING PROGRAMME

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Feb 26 (Bernama) -- Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations became more meaningful for 80 Persons with Disabilities (PwD) recipients, including children, when they were brought to shop for new Raya outfits by Nasmir Holding Sdn Bhd through Yayasan Al Nasmir at a supermarket here today.

All recipients, accompanied by their respective family members, appeared cheerful and excited as they were able to personally choose the clothing they would wear on the morning of Aidilfitri.

Visually impaired recipient Nur Laily Adi Mesra, 32, said the opportunity to shop physically offered a more meaningful experience compared with her usual practice of making online purchases with the help of family members.

“It is enjoyable because I can choose for myself, touch and feel the fabric before making a purchase. Usually, I only tell my family members the colour or design I want, and they will buy it for me.

“Even more delightful, this year I have the chance to wear matching outfits with my husband, who is also visually impaired, making this Aidilfitri celebration more special,” she told reporters here today.

Nur Laily, who has been blind and physically disabled since birth, said the contribution also helped ease the burden of preparing for the festive season, and she expressed appreciation to the supermarket staff who assisted her in selecting the clothing.

Visually impaired couple Abu Hasan Mahmud, 46, and Nur Emida Robi, 38, described the contribution as very meaningful as they no longer need to worry about expenses for Raya outfits this year, including for their only son, Muhammad Arif Haikal, 13.

“With this contribution, at least I can save on expenses and use the extra money for other preparations such as buying festive cookies and other necessities for Aidilfitri,” said Abu Hasan, who sells plastic goods at night markets.

Meanwhile, Nasmir Holding managing director Datuk Kadhar Shah Abdul Razak said the annual programme aims to bring joy to underprivileged families, adding that contributions were also extended to accompanying family members and teachers.

“They are free to choose any clothing they like. This year, we aim to assist 2,800 individuals while also organising iftar events at 72 mosques,” he added.
