SEPANG, March 7 (Bernama) -- The Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, officiated the Selangor Women Khatam Quran 2026 event, held at the Sultan Abdul Samad Mosque, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), here.

The event, organised by the Selangor government, through the Standing Committee on Women and Family Empowerment and Wanita Berdaya Selangor (WBS), in collaboration with the office of the Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government, was attended by 1,000 women from the Sepang parliamentary constituency and across Selangor.

The programme aimed to complete the recitation of the 30 juz of the Quran collectively, symbolising unity, appreciation of Islamic values and the strengthening of ukhuwah (brotherhood) among women.

Held to enliven the holy month of Ramadan, the event reflects the Selangor government’s continued commitment to empowering women holistically, through approaches encompassing spiritual, leadership and social well-being aspects.

It also served as a platform to bring women together across different professional and community backgrounds, further strengthening support networks and the spirit of togetherness, during the blessed month of Ramadan.

Also present were Deputy Housing and Local Government Minister and Sepang Member of Parliament Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu, Selangor Puspanita (Malaysian Association of Wives and Women Civil Servants) chairperson Datin Syarmila Yahya, and the state Women’s Welfare and Charity Organisation president Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad.

Meanwhile, Aiman Athirah said the Ihya Ramadan Kasih 1,000 Wanita MADANI programme symbolises the unity of women, in strengthening spiritual values, leadership and community togetherness, in line with the Malaysia MADANI aspiration.

She expressed hope that the programme, themed ‘Ramadan Memurni Ummah MADANI', would foster a spirit of togetherness within the community, while enlivening Ramadan through activities beneficial to the local community.

“This is part of the ongoing effort to enliven Ramadan, where the month teaches Muslims to become individuals of taqwa, through discipline, sincerity and deep spiritual awareness,” she said.
