KUALA LUMPUR, March 25 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh is one step away from striking gold in the 2026 Asia Cup (Stage 1) Archery Championships in Bangkok, after storming into the final of the women's compound individual event today.

The 34-year-old edged Individual Neutral Athlete (AIN) Mariia Dimidiuk 144-143 in the semi-finals held at the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) Football Stadium.

In the final on Friday, Fatin Nurfatehah will take on Arina Cherkezova after the AIN archer defeated India's Tejal Rajendra Salve 147-144 in the other semi-final.

Earlier, Fatin Nurfatehah helped the women's compound team clinch bronze with a shoot-off victory over Thailand after both teams were tied 225-225.

However, national recurve archers Evan Rich Chong and Joey Tan failed to make the men's and women's individual finals.

In the semi-finals, Evan lost 3-7 to Vietnam's Nguyen Hoang Phi Vu, while Joey went down 0-6 to India's Ridhi.

Both archers still have a chance to get on the podium as they will compete in the third-place playoffs on Friday, with Evan meeting Kirill Batuev (AIN) and Joey taking on Baasandorj Oyun (Mongolia).
