BACHOK, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- Young Malaysian Muaythai star Putra Abdullah Mahmoud, 20, is set to return to the ring with ferocity in the Duo International Muay Thai Fight tournament to be held at Padang KRT Beris Kubur Besar here tomorrow.

Putra Abdullah, who is known for his aggressive flurry of knee-and-elbow attacks, is expected to face a tough test when he tackles experienced Terengganu exponent Sabri Thaivisih in the 62-kilogramme (kg) category.

According to tournament sponsor Wan Afiq Amirul Wan Roslan (of Duo Sports Inc), apart from Putra Abdullah, the focus is also on Jordan Boy, who will take on Kelantan’s Paid GC Terbo, in the 73kg bout.

“This tournament pits seven teams against 14 professional boxers who will showcase their technical prowess and agility in the martial art of Muaythai.

“After almost two years without an international Muaythai tournament in Kelantan, this is the best platform to revive the spirit of this sport in this state,” he told Bernama today.

Wan Afiq said organising this tournament was not just about reviving the fighting arena, but also as a step to promote Kelantan’s status as a hotbed for finding new talent in Muaythai.

“We know many young Kelantanese are very talented in this sport. With tournaments like this, they can gain experience and have the opportunity to progress to a higher level,” he said.

Meanwhile, Putra Abdullah, who has carved a name for himself in various tournaments, admitted that he was excited to return to action in his home state.

“It’s been a long time since I fought here (in Kelantan), I miss the atmosphere of fighting on my home soil. I will give my best tomorrow,” he said.

He is aware that every foe in the ring will be no easy meat, especially the vastly experienced Sabri Thaivisih.

“My opponent is an experienced fighter and not easy to defeat. But I have prepared thoroughly, including intensive training before coming to Kelantan. I am ready to fight to the end,” he said.
