PERAK AIM TO DENY JDT CHANCE OF CLINCHING SUPER LEAGUE CROWN ON HOME GROUND

19/02/2025 08:42 PM

IPOH, Feb 19 (Bernama) -- Perak FC aim to leave the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium (SS) in Iskandar Puteri with at least a point when they travel to meet Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) on Feb 27 to delay the Southern Tigers’ expected coronation as winners of the Malaysian Super League for the 11th consecutive time.

Perak head coach Yusri Che Lah, however, was quick to admit this would be easier said than done as JDT, under the guidance of Hector Bidoglio, are riding high after marching into the round of 16 of the Asian Champions League Elite (ACLE) by trouncing South Korean club side Pohang Steelers 5-2 at SSI yesterday.

“They are a complete team and have not lost at the SSI.

“But then, we do have a chance to steal a point and deny them the opportunity of lifting the Super League crown in front of their home fans,” said Yusri.

With five matches to go, JDT are perched atop the 13-team standings with 55 points - 13 points ahead of second-placed Selangor. Perak, meanwhile, are in fifth spot with 23 points.

JDT will seal the title on home ground if they beat Perak on Feb 27. Even if Selangor were to win against Sabah on Feb 27, JDT would have an unassailable 13-point lead with four matches left.
