KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 (Bernama) -- National diving programme technical director Yeoh Ken Nee is pleased with the performance of Enrique Maccartney Harold despite the diver narrowly missing out on a place in the men's 10-metre (m) individual final in the first leg of the 2025 Diving World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico recently.
Ken Nee, however, admitted that the 19-year-old still needs to improve his diving technique.
"Enrique achieved the minimum qualifying score (at the Diving World Cup Qualifier). However, he was a little unlucky not to have qualified for the final because the competitors at the meet showed tremendous improvements as well, especially those from Mexico.
"For me, this is good news, especially for our men's platform divers,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.
On Saturday (April 5), Enrique amassed 372.05 points to finish 13th in the preliminary round.
When asked to comment on the performance of national woman diving ace Datuk Pandelela Rinong, Ken Nee admitted that although the Rio Olympic Games silver medallist accumulated a higher number of points compared to the last tournament she took part in last year, she still failed to meet the minimum qualifying point of 290 at the world meet.
"I can see that Pandelela has shown progress at the meet. Last year, she posted 258.8 points at the Malaysia Open and this time she amassed 267.85.
"So, I hope she will continue to show improvement when she competes in the second leg of the Diving World Cup in Windsor, Canada this weekend,” he said.
In Guadalajara, Pandelela missed out on a place in the women’s 10m platform final after finishing 13thh in the preliminary round with 267.85 points on Friday (April 4).
Based on performances across two legs, the top 12 divers in each discipline will advance to the Super Final in Beijing next month.
