QATAR CLASSIC: SIVASANGARI, AIRA MARCH INTO QUARTER-FINALS

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 29 (Bernama) -- National squash ace S. Sivasangari and 2023 World Junior Squash Championships runner-up Aira Azman had successfully checked into the last eight of the Qatar Classic 2025 in Doha, today.

Seventh seed Sivasangari came out tops against Nele Gilis of Belgium 11-8, 11-8, 11-5, in 34 minutes in the second round of the tournament held at Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.

A stern test awaits Sivasangari next as she is set to play second seed Hania El Hammamy after the 2023 champion from Egypt came from behind to oust Jasmine Hutton of England 8-11, 11-6, 11-2, 11-9. 

In the meantime, the 21-year-old Aira took 29 minutes to see off Egypt’s Zeina Mickawy, 11-8, 11-7, 13-11 and will set up the last eight clash against Amina Orfi. 

Earlier, the fourth seed from Egypt thumped American player Marina Stefanoni, 11-3, 11-7, 11-3.

The Professional Squash Association (PSA) squash tour platinum tier event offers a total prize pool of US$231,500 (about RM976,000) each for men’s and women’s category.
