KLANG, Oct 5 (Bernama) -- The Petaling District was crowned the defending champion of the 15th Selangor Sports Championship (SUKSES), maintaining its excellent record for the 15th consecutive time since the inaugural edition of the state sports games in 1995.

The victory trophy was presented by Selangor Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Exco Mohd Najwan Halimi at SUKSES closing ceremony in Hamzah Hall, Royal Klang City Council (MBDK), here today.
The tournament, which took place from Sept 17 to today, also crowned Kuala Selangor district athlete Muhamad Daniel Haqiem Azman, 20, as the male athlete of this edition, while Petaling athlete Sasha Alyssa Philip, 16, also from athletics, was crowned the female athlete of the tournament.

A total of 11 types of sports were competed in this tournament, namely lawn bowl, taekwondo, sepak takraw, netball, rugby, pencak silat, athletics, basketball, volleyball, archery and table tennis.
Approximately 401 medals were offered through 121 sports events with all events being competed in the Klang district except for five sports in Shah Alam, namely lawn bowl, sepak takraw, netball, rugby and volleyball.
The organisation of this edition of SUKSES brought together more than 2,300 athletes under 20 years of age to camp in Klang throughout the tournament.
This edition also maintains the format of the sports competition that will be contested at Malaysia Games (SUKMA), in line with efforts to provide a preparation platform and early exposure for Selangor athletes.
