RMSIR 2025: MARIKH AIM TO MAINTAIN MOMENTUM IN PENANG–LANGKAWI STAGE

GEORGE TOWN, Nov 20 (Bernama) -- The Marikh team from the Malaysian Armed Forces hope to maintain the momentum gained during the second race from Pangkor to Penang as they set sail for Langkawi today in the 35th Raja Muda Selangor International Regatta (RMSIR).

Marikh skipper, Air Force Corporal Muhammad Husaini Mohd Rodzi, said that if they can sustain their strong performance, the team has the potential to finish on the podium in Class 5.

“In the first race from Port Klang to Pangkor, we were in fourth place. So I tried to catch up in the second race from Pangkor to Penang and, thank God, we finished third.

“We are staying focused, and if we are blessed with some luck, God willing, we can secure a podium position,” he said when met yesterday.

Muhammad Husaini added that all preparations for the race to Langkawi have gone smoothly and that he hopes to execute the strategies well.

“We have made our preparations, checked the wind and weather forecasts. I hope the crew is ready, and we pray that fortune will be on our side from Penang to Langkawi,” he said.

Marikh currently sits in third place in Class 5 after accumulating 12 penalty points.

Malaysia’s Dash and Sade 2 teams occupy first (three penalty points) and second place (six penalty points), respectively. 

The RMSIR, held over nine days from Nov 14 to 22, features 23 teams.

First held in 1990, the RMSIR is the second-oldest regatta in Asia and was the brainchild of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, when he was the Raja Muda of Selangor.
