JAKARTA, Sept 25 (Bernama) -- The ‘ASEAN Student Global Change X Malaysia Day’ programme has successfully concluded, uniting 50 students from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Cambodia to promote understanding and cooperation through hands-on social and community projects.

The event, which ran from Sept 13 to 16 and organised by the National Association of Malaysian Students in Indonesia (PKPMI), was held in honour of the 61st Malaysia Day, with the objective of fostering solidarity among young people in the region.

“This programme is a key platform for ASEAN students to come together, share ideas, and make a tangible impact on society,” said the President of PKPMI Abdullah Ali Albaqir Januar Khairul Bakar in a statement on Wednesday.

“As the next generation, we have a significant responsibility to enhance regional relationships through meaningful actions that contribute to our collective well-being,” he added.

Under the theme ‘ASEAN Unity in Community Service’, the programme was held in partnership with Malaysia’s Ministry of Higher Education, with collaboration from the Malaysian Embassy and Education Malaysia Indonesia, a unit of the ministry.

Participants engaged in various community service projects in and around Jakarta, supporting vulnerable communities at Rumah Harapan Orphanage and Kampung Cahaya through activities like English language workshops for local children and environmental clean-up campaigns.

The programme also featured panel discussions on addressing global challenges and showcased cultural performances from each participating country, enhancing the spirit of unity and cooperation.

Abdullah Ali Albaqir expressed optimism that the programme would lay the groundwork for enhanced collaboration among ASEAN students, highlighting that the unity and social responsibility fostered during the event would be crucial for future efforts.

“This programme reflects a renewed commitment from Southeast Asia’s youth to strengthen ties and work towards a more inclusive and sustainable future for the region,” he said.
