PASSENGER PLANE NARROWLY AVOIDS CRASHING NEAR PRAGUE

13/02/2026 12:51 PM

PRAGUE, Feb 13 (Bernama-dpa) -- An aeroplane on its way from Lisbon to Prague may have narrowly escaped a catastrophe, the German Press Agency (dpa) reported.

The Czech newspaper MF Dnes reported on Thursday that the plane lost a lot of altitude and sank to around 300 metres above the ground. Only then did the pilot pull the Airbus A320neo aircraft up again.

The Czech Air Accidents Investigation Institute opened an investigation.

"We are investigating the event as a serious incident," said an official spokesman.

The air traffic control radar systems had indicated that the aircraft was flying below the intended altitude. An air traffic controller then warned the crew.

The incident occurred just under a month ago near Krivoklat Castle, around 35 kilometres west of Prague International Airport.

One passenger, who said he was on board the aircraft, told the online edition of the newspaper Pravo that "it was terrible because I immediately thought that we had to avoid an obstacle."

At that moment, he said, he thought of his family.
